Last week I had the honour to be in Uzbekistan for the Council of Europe, presenting along with former prime and justice ministers as well as supreme court judges from across Europe in the panel on "Constitutional ways - on the way of strengthening fundamental rights" at the Tashkent Law Spring, the biggest rule of law event in Central Asia.
Great speeches were delivered by inter alia Miroslav Cerar, Boriss Cilevics, Herta Däubler-Gmelin, Göran Lambertz, George Papuashvili and Demirhan Burak Çelik, with moderation by Askar Gafurov.
I talked about access to justice as a vital element in the democratic process, pointing at the challenges vulnerable groups like victims of domestic violence face when exercising their rights and ways to overcome them.
