How to ensure access to justice for people who cannot afford to pay for a lawyer? This question is central to the talk I will give next week at the 2021 conference of the Research Committee on Sociology of Law (RCSL), which brings together leading scholars from around the world each year.
In my talk, I will discuss recent developments in strengthening access to justice in Europe, particularly the Council of Europe's landmark guidelines on legal aid, which I was commissioned to develop and were approved by the Committee of Ministers this spring.
